Clay – arguably one of the oldest materials, originating from the earth – continues to fascinate with its unique possibilities for form and texture. It is a material that demands empathy, craftsmanship, and spatial imagination, as well as intuition and circumspection. These are qualities that the Dutch-Turkish artist and designer, with a background in film, masterfully combines.
Her process, which primarily involves stoneware clay, is physical and intuitive, characterized by repetition and experimentation. The surfaces often remain unglazed, refined and highly textured. Her works reflect an urbanity and worldly understanding that she has absorbed throughout her various stages of life. Exhibited worldwide, her works are inspired by the legacy of ancient civilizations and the cultural heritage of pre-modern Anatolia.
