Clay – one of the oldest materials, originating from the earth – continues to fascinate with its special possibilities for form and texture. A material that requires empathy, craftsmanship, and spatial imagination, as well as intuition and prudence. Qualities that the Dutch-Turkish artist and designer with a background in film knows how to combine.
Her process, which primarily works with stoneware clay, is physical and intuitive, characterized by repetition and experimentation. The surfaces often remain unglazed, refined, and heavily textured. Her works bear witness to urbanity and worldly understanding, which she has absorbed during her various stations. Exhibited worldwide, her works are inspired by the heritage of ancient civilizations and the cultural heritage of pre-modern Anatolia.
